How Can I Treat Acne Naturally?

If you've ever had a brush with acne at any point in your life, then you recall the experience and the relief you had when it finally went away. But unfortunately, not many people have been fortunate enough to get rid of acne once and for all.

While acne is a common disease that has plagued the lives of many, it can be pretty tricky to get rid of without the right cure. As a result, most acne victims have tried different ointments and creams, desperately trying to get a cure.

Even though most manufacturers lay various claims about their products' efficacy, getting one suitable to your skin type and acne condition can be quite daunting. However, if you have or are suffering from acne, you will be relieved to know that there are some natural remedies you can try out without worrying about their suitability for your skin type.

So, without further ado, let's get started!

Ways to Treat Acne Naturally

Here are some natural skin care remedies that can help treat acne if applied consistently.

Aloe Vera. Aloe Vera is a plant that has been used to treat various skin conditions for centuries. The plant contains several beneficial compounds for the skin, such as vitamins A, C, and E. These vitamins help to soothe the skin and boost its natural ability to heal itself.

Aloe vera also contains anti-inflammatory properties that can help to reduce the redness and swelling associated with acne.

To use Aloe Vera to treat acne, simply cut a leaf from the plant and extract the gel from it. Apply the gel directly to the affected area and leave it on for about 30 minutes before rinsing it off with lukewarm water. For best results, repeat this process 2-3 times per week.

Apple Cider Vinegar. Apple cider vinegar is a type of vinegar made from fermented apples. It contains acetic acid, which has been shown to kill the Propionibacterium acnes bacteria that causes acne.

In addition, apple cider vinegar helps to unclog blocked pores and dry out the excess oil that can contribute to the formation of acne.

To use apple cider vinegar to treat acne, mix 3 to 4 parts of water (depending on the sensitivity of your skin; 4 parts for very sensitive skin) and one part of apple cider vinegar in a bowl or cup. Using a cotton ball, apply the mixture to the affected area. Depending on your preference, you can leave it for the rest of the day or wash it off after about 30 minutes.

For best results, repeat this process 2-3 times per week.

Tea Tree Oil. Tea tree oil is an essential oil that has been shown to have anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties. These properties make it effective in treating acne and other skin conditions, especially when there is a presence of redness and swelling in the affected areas.

When using tea tree oil, dilute it with a carrier oil such as jojoba or olive oil, so it doesn't irritate the skin. Apply 3 to 5 drops of the mixture to the affected areas of the skin and repeat the process daily for effective results.

Baking Soda. Baking soda is one of those homemade ingredients that has multi-faceted uses. While it has been widely used as a whitening agent in dentistry for removing tough stains, a homemade baking soda paste can also prove effective in treating various types of acne.

The baking soda paste can be made at home by mixing 1 tablespoon water with 1 teaspoon baking soda until it forms a moderately thick paste. If the paste is too thick, you should consider adding more water. However, if the paste is watery, adding an extra amount of baking soda should do the trick but be sure not to use more than 2 teaspoons of baking soda.

Once you've achieved the desired paste thickness, apply the paste to the affected area and leave it to sit for about 30 minutes. Next, wash off the paste from your face with warm water, dry off the water and follow up with a moisturizer.

Honey. For most people, honey is usually called upon as a sweetener for their tea or beverages. Even though it does the job of a sweetener effectively, it also contains anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that make it potent in treating acne.

Moreover, honey also helps to moisturize the skin and keep it hydrated while providing a soothing effect and speeding up the healing process of acne-affected areas. That's why renowned skincare brands like BSKIN use it as the primary ingredient for their anti-acne treatment solution in combination with other potent anti-acne ingredients.

To get the best out of homemade honey treatment, mix honey with aloe vera, one teaspoon of chickpea flour, and a tiny amount of turmeric to make a DIY anti-acne solution. Apply the mixture to your face and allow to sit for 30 minutes to an hour.

Rinse off the paste with cool water and follow up with an ice cube. The ice cube helps soothe the skin while aiding the treatment of congested faces. Repeat the process about 3 to 5 times a week, and your skin will thank you for it.

If you can, try replacing your regular honey with Manuka Honey. It contains various anti-microbial properties and is excellent for treating various skin conditions.

Coconut Oil. Coconut oil is another natural ingredient that is effective in treating acne. It contains fatty acids such as lauric acid and capric acid that have anti-microbial properties. These properties help to kill the bacteria that cause acne, Cutibacteirum acnes, formerly known as Propionibacterium acnes.

In addition, coconut oil helps moisturize the skin and prevents it from drying out. This is important as dry skin can worsen acne.

To use coconut oil to treat acne:

  1. Apply a small amount of the oil to the affected skin areas and massage it for a few minutes.
  2. Leave it on for about 30 minutes before rinsing it off with lukewarm water.
  3. Repeat this process 2-3 times per week for the best results.
